Curb Appeal Ideas That Stand Out

(ARA) - Curb appeal is taking on a bigger role in today’s housing market. With the number of available homes for sale growing each day, buyers can afford to be choosy and consider only houses that show well from the street. That means sellers now have just a few seconds to make a first impression, capture interest and draw buyers inside.

“In today’s competitive market, buyers want upgrades, like windows and doors, that create visual appeal,” says Elizabeth Souders, product marketing manager for JELD-WEN.

Top 5 Curb Appeal Tips

1. Stay true to style: Upgrades should fit in with a home’s architectural style.

2. Add details: Custom features are a great way to achieve one-of-a-kind looks that stand out. Adding a doorknocker, speakeasy, decorative glass or metal accents are some ideas.

3. Remember the garage: JELD-WEN is seeing many homeowners ordering garage doors complete with window inserts, metal accents and hardware to match the main entry door for a coordinated appearance.

4. Dress the yard: Make sure the house is the first thing potential buyers see, not overgrown hedges or dead grass.

5. Coordinate color: Color, when done right, sells. Doors and windows give homeowners ideal opportunities to infuse color into their curb appeal without having to paint.

Taylor OldroydCEO Message - Taylor Oldroyd

The REALTOR® team, anchored by Peter Van Orman& Robert Hulme, won the UMLA golf tournament on Thursday, June 5 with an outstanding and strong performance. Great job representing our agents!

This morning UCAR hosted the Utah County Summit on Affordable Housing. It was a tremendous success. Those who attended were able to hear robust discussions on how to generate housing opportunities and what the role of government, lending institutions, and consumers play to ensure housing access. I heard from many attendees that they appreciated the discussion and look forward to seeing some of the ideas discussed translated into action.

Thanks to all who helped make this a success: Corey Norman with Rep. Chris Cannon’s office; John Curtis with Integrated Title Services; Hayven Dunn with Humana MarketPoint; speakers Dr. Kelly Matthews and Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert; moderators Tad Walch and Craig Dennis; and special thanks to our panelists, Mike Glenn, Brad Bishop, Dave Brown, Al Bingham, Deon Spilker, Ron Winterton, and Matt Barton.

Congratulations to the 2008 Housing Advocate Award recipient, Neighborhood Housing Services of Provo. See the link on our web page for more information about NHS.

This Summit is one of the four components of the UCAR POWER initiative. I invite you to come find out more about UCAR POWER on Wednesday, June 11 at 9:30 AM at the Eldred Center in Provo (270 W 500 N). UCAR POWER will help each REALTOR® be successful through increased education and training; it will also help UCAR be known throughout the county as the United Voice of Real Estate. Nearly everything we do for the rest of this year will be hinged on UCAR POWER, so come support us as we launch this important initiative.
